Something Old: Incorporating Shoes You Already Have Into Your Wedding Day

You know the saying, “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.” When working with our bridal clients, I have found that this concept is one some get stuck on. The thoughts vary from “how should I?” to “what should I?” or “do I even have to?” Sometimes the biggest decision is to simply decide!

Now, as a bride it is important to determine what is non-negotiable. This would simply be those things that you have already set in your mind as a “must have” or “must do” for your wedding. Items such as your dress, hair, make up + fresh flowers may be areas where you will splurge. In that vein, an item you can cut cost on would be your SHOES.

Here are 3 things to keep in mind while incorporating “something old” via the shoe selection process:

  1. Peruse your closet to see what shoes you already have. Think about it, nine times out of ten, no one is going to see your shoes under your dress anyway! Take time to go through your closet and see what you have. Look at the different colors, textures, styles. You know, the ones that have meaning to you or strike a fond memory of your past.

  2. Go for comfort. You will have these babies on your feet for approximately 3 - 10 hours. From your ceremony (yes, this includes walking down that long aisle!) + photos to making your rounds to guest tables + dancing your heart out during the reception. With all this standing + walking, you want to be sure not to compromise your feet! Whichever shoes you choose, make sure they are comfortable + offer ankle support.

  3. When all else fails, go blue. Yes, blue! Why not have a little pop of color under that beauty of a dress. A blue selection will be a show stopper for sure. While you are at it, you would have killed 2 birds with one stone, covering “something old,” “something blue” + actually with that non-negotiable dress, you have also incorporated “something new !”

How befitting for this to be the initial SWE Blog Post of many, especially coming from a lover of shoes! What shoe in your closet will be your wedding day go to? Looking forward to hearing from you in the comments and staying connected!

From Me, To You

Love,

Sonju
